Imaging Methodology
Kodak Professional digital cameras (3060x2036 pixel sensor array) are being used to obtain Visable RGB (model DCS460c) and Near-Infrared (model DSC460ir, panchromatic detector with Kodak Wratten #88A filter) imagery of Impregnated soil blocks and soil thin sections. Kodak Wratten Filters (#29, 61, and 46) are used to improve RGB spectral resolution in imagery. Using appropriate lenes, spatial resolutions of 10 to 25 microns is possible.
Transmitted light imagery of soil thin sectios is optained using a Fostec ACEI cold lamp. Edmonds Scientific 10% polarization sheets are used to provide both plane and circular polarizes illuminization.
Reflected light imagery of polished, resin-impregnated, soil blocks as well as soil thin sections are obtained using either fluorescent or tungsten lamps for surface illumination.
